Merry Christmas

Wow what a year this has been!  The studio has once again grown, and we have been blessed to make the acquaintance of many wonderful people, whom we now call friends.  We have performed in a show and at many events both corporate and private.  I'd like to thank all of those who have supported us over the past year especially the friends and family of all of my dancers, who have been so patient and understanding each and every time I've borrowed them away from you for what must seem like forever.

And what would I do without my beautiful dancers... each and everyone of you is so special to me.  Remember always beauty is not seen with the eye but rather felt in the heart.
Have a wonderful Christmas ... Love you all

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

A Mother’s Love

A mother’s love is something that no one can explain
It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain
It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it or take that love away…

It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking
And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking..
It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns
And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems

It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation
And it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation
A many splendored miracle, man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence of God’s tender guiding hand

DANCE FOR PEOPLE WITH HAEMOPHILIA

Ok, so everyone knows I'm a sucker for good causes - well here is another that I think deserves your attention.

This ballroom & Latin dance competition will be held in Berario (Randburg) on the 16th of April starting 16h00 - it does not include a dress section, only bronze, silver, and gold sections.  It is for a good cause and the entrance is in comparison to other competition very cheap, (for competitors and spectators).

Entry form is available on this link

Please consider supporting them if not as a competitor, at least as a spectator. - hope to see you there.

Angie's Ballroom and Latin Social Dance Club

Thank you to everyone who attended the Social dance that was held on the 16th of October at Impala Park Community Hall in Boksburg.  Our socials are intended to for the serious dancer as we play proper ballroom and Latin dance music - not sokkie.  It is perfect for competing couples and learners, as well as the social dancer and beginners.  We encourage copules and singles to attend and if you wish to start dancing it is the perfect place to make contacts and meet like minded people.  If anyone is interested in attending our socials in the future - I would like to suggest that you join the group on FaceBook. All information regarding the socials is available through this group. Just follow this link

Pink in support of the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

Well add this to the list of crazy things I've done - this was a challenge - if i get 50 likes - I dye my hair pink, I didn't actually think it would happen, but the friends ganged up on me, & so true to my word I dyed my hair - yikes -only it didn't come out pink - it was more of a red. Fortunately its not permanent, and will wash out!  If you are quizzy there are more pictures on my face book page: http://www.facebook.com/dance.at.angies.studio

How it works

Whether you've been dancing for years, or just starting out, if you want to compete you have to start at the bottom. I danced when I was a teen and then also did social Ballroom, but at the beginning of this year decided I wanted to compete. I was very lucky to find a wonderful partner who had already been competing and he had just reached his Gold level in Ballroom. We began training together in March and danced our first competition in May.

The levels are:
Beginner
Bronze
Silver
Gold
Novice / Prechamp
Championship

In order to move up a level you need to get a certain amount points by competing, and the amount of points required for each section differs with degree of difficulty. The points depend on how many people arrive at a competition to compete in a section and how well you do.

When Johan & I became partners I was allowed to start at his Ballroom level - being Gold, but we started at Bronze in the Latin with zero points in both sections.

We are now on Silver Latin and Gold Ballroom, but I recon if not this Sunday at Carnival City then definately by the competition on the 2nd of October we will have enough points to go up another level in both.

Up until Novice the dress code is plain dresses, straight hem (almost like an leotard with a skirt on), no jewerly, no fancy hair styles - hair must be scrapped back into a bun - when you get to novice you're allowed to wear fancy costumes and the guys wear tail coats. You're also only allowed to dance the syllabus steps for the section you're in. You can't for example put a fancy Gold step into a bronze routine.

So in Durban, there were plenty of adults competing in Bronze and Silver section but only us for Gold - which would have meant we wouldn't have got any points. Our teacher got permission for us to dance in the Novice section.

When Johan & I lined up with the Novices in all their glitters and him and I in plain costumes we already got "what are they doing in our section" looks. We danced our Gold routine - nothing fancy.

At the prize giving they called the six couples up to stand on the dance floor - Johan & I went up. Then they announce the places in reverse order (in JHB we do it the other way round)- so they call in 6th place and Johan takes my hand, ready to now walk forward - and they called someone else, so we looked at each other and said oh well at least we're not last - and so it went 5th, 4th, by the time they called 3rd Johan was squeezing my hand so tight my fingers were numb.

So third it was - out of our section, gold routine, not a sequent or diamante between us and we still gave them stick! - I can't tell how thrilled I am!!!

The next one is this Sunday at Carnival City and I can't wait to get there! - Wish us luck!
